‘Twas a fortnight since last we Books’d and Bitch’d, m’ladies…

Hey gurrrrrrrrls. Dayum, you be looking faaaaaawyne today if I may say so. AND I DO SAY SO!!

How goes the reading, everyone? I, myself, am loving this book. So much in fact, I decided to share with you a doodle about cruise directors in the book Bossypants. I am exactly halfway through the book. I’m thinking the idea of one book per month is a good speed to go so far. Keep the questions and comments coming!

Time to take a poll again! What shall we read next? I’ll post the same books from last time, but feel free to add new titles into the “Other” category. [F.Y.I. The Help (the film) won a bunch of Oscars last Sunday!!]

P.S. I heard Michael Ian Black is coming out with a new book soon called You’re Not Doing it Right Which seems like it will be really hilarious just based on his last book My Custom Van: And 50 Other Mind-Blowing Essays that Will Blow Your Mind All Over Your Face. If anyone is unfamiliar with Michael Ian Black’s comedic style… Iiiiii would sayyyyy it’s more on the dry side of the wine scale? If you’d like an introduction, I believe Taco Party is a good dip-your-toe-into-the-pool of his elegance and style. Needless to say, I will be lobbying to add his new book onto our list once it comes out. Follow him on twitter if you like the occasional laugh 😛

First Book: BOSSY PANTS by Tina Fey

What’s that you say? It was a tie? But why was Bossy Pants chosen?

Yep. It was a tie at 23.53% for both Bossy Pants and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children… so I chose the OBVIOUS problem solving technique by which one should make every difficult life decision… I flipped a coin. BUT NOT JUST ANY COIN, mein freundens! I downloaded the Free Heads or Tails app and flipped a virtual, non-biased coin. Heads= Bossy Pants, Tails= Miss Peregrine’s. B. Pants for the win. Perhaps we will read the runner up after next round of book voting.

Your task now is to um well read it. (I’m seeing it pretty cheap, $8.79 + FREE SHIPPING at Buy.com) Originally I was thinking we would take it two chapters at a time per biweekly blog post, but I realized that once people get into a book, it’s hard to put it down. And ya know what? This is a BOOK club, so we gotta READ BOOKS, yo. So here’s my proposal: At minimum, try to read at least half of the book for the discussions we’ll be having exactly one fortnight from now. If you can’t help but read the whole book, go for it, and mention that you completed it in your posts next time. We should get a good gauge for how quickly everyone is reading by then.

After you’ve read half the book, jot down two questions, comments, or relative weblinks for discussion and don’t forget to bitch about something every so often.

I’ll start the initial bitching 😛 …so I just started my new job a week and a half ago and I work in a cube under florescent lights where no one else really talks much at all durring the entire day. It’s driving me crazy! Apparently the sound of chomping banana chips is too loud for some people. I’m thinking of ways to entertain myself by being passive aggressive with noise and anti-cubicle behavior. (Also, our signage of a blurry rock-climber reminds me of a tampon commercial). –FIN!

Which book should we read first?

Hay GURRRLS! It’s time to work oooout that index finger and click to vote! If you’re not sure which book to choose, the descriptions are in the pervious post.

We’ll leave the voting open till our next meeting, February 15th. So, just think of it as your Valentine gift to yourself– a vote, and then a new book when the voting is complete. (I know… srsly… que romantica…) (sarcasm)

So, to add a little spicy salsa to this week’s post, in the spirit of Valentine’s Day, let’s share our best ~Love~ quotes/lyrics/poems/youtube links in a comment, whether it be in the style of “Ah, l’amour” or “Alanis Morissette” or both!

Cheers, ladies! To pages and rages!

Welcome to Books, Bitches.

Hello, m’ladies. The reason I want to start “Books, Bitches” is to bring my long-distance (and close distance) friends together so we can all keep in touch and hopefully read some interesting books (…but ya don’t have to take MY word for it… doot doot DOOT!) So, if you know anyone else who might be interested in joining, just send ’em this link! It’s free to sign up with WordPress. Free!

The plan is to meet online on this sexy-ass forum, biweekly to start it off. If this becomes a “reg” thing in our lives, then we can reorganize our meeting times. For now, let’s just meet on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of every month. What time of day, do you ask? I assume most of your posts might be written after work time (cuz you’re all sssssuch diligent workers, right?) and since we’re all in different time zones, I didn’t want to set anything in stone as far as meeting time. We’ll see how it goes for now. So really, you can post anytime Wednesday, at your own pace throughout the day. Of course, feel free to add your comments any day of the week, at any hour, with any reason.

The first official meeting is February 1st. From now until that day, try to come up with 2 book titles you might be interested to read (and short descriptions of each) and post them here, with a quick intro of yourself (name + location + profession + etc). On Feb 1st we can vote on what the first book SHALL BE!
When that’s been determined, go out to your local library or book store (R.I.P. Borders ::pours out a bit of a 40 oz.:: ) and read at least 2 chapters and bring 2 questions/comments for discussion durring the next meeting.
MOST IMPORTANTLY: feel free to “bitch” about whatevah you liiiiiike guurl.
Thanks for all the email responses already, and I look forward to the books and the bitching!  Mwwak!
I leave you with some classic Levar Burton:
